Howtos - Moving to a Larger Hard Drive

Overview

If you would like to move your ClarkConnect install to a larger hard drive there are a couple of programs you can use to accomplish this.

Compatible Programs

You can use one of the following programs to clone your current install of ClarkConnect to the new drive. Boot off the CD or disk that is generated by the software you have to move over the partitions or the entire drive.

• Acronis TrueImage
• Acronis DiskDirector
• Acronis MigrateEasy
• Norton Ghost 8.0 and higher
• G4U

	Warning!

This should go without saying, but make sure your new drive boots and is working properly with your ClarkConnect install before wiping the old drive.

Repairing GRUB

After you clone the partitions to your new drive, you may run into the problem where GRUB can no longer boot your operating system. You will get the following when booting

Then the computer will just sit there or will reboot.

You can fix this by booting from your ClarkConnect CD. When prompted, enter rescue mode and follow the prompts. At the end you will receive a message that the installer will look for existing ClarkConnect installs. Once it has found your existing install it will mount it at /mnt/sysimage.

Issue the following command to change to your existing ClarkConnect install:

• chroot /mnt/sysimage

Load the GRUB prompt - note that this may take a VERY long time. You CAN move the drive to a faster computer system to perform these steps:

• grub

Once the GRUB prompt appears issue the following commands:

• root (hd0,0)
• setup (hd0)
• quit

Now reboot the computer and GRUB should load your boot menu and you should be back in business.

Note that another way to repair your install it to perform a reinstall of your software using the ClarkConnect CD. This does work, however it may break some customizations you have applied to your ClarkConnect install. There have also been reports in the forums of this method not reinstalling GRUB properly.
