FAQ - Gateway Services

Contents

Are the ClarkConnect Gateway Services secure?

Yes! In fact, we use the technology to monitor our own infrastructure. The ClarkConnect Gateway Service was built on Point Clark Networks' Suva technology. The technology:

  • Uses the encryption algorithm adopted by the US government in 2001.
  • Provides secure tunnels between the central office and end systems.
  • Integrates key-based authentication.

Can I monitor a system behind a firewall?

ClarkConnect Gateway Services are designed for systems that are directly connected to the Internet. The system will work if you forward incoming connections on port 1875.

How do the ClarkConnect Gateway Services work?

Every ClarkConnect install includes a thin layer of software called Suva. The software layer interacts with ClarkConnect's Service Delivery Network (SDN). This client/server mechanism encrypts communications, authenticates with Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and automates the system monitoring engine. This monitoring engine actively polls and interacts with servers, firewalls and gateways deployed on servers in the field.

What is Suva?

Suva lets you securely manage remote systems via the Internet. The technology makes it possible to deliver services in a secure and controlled manner. Suva was designed with the following features:

  • Integrates with existing software and systems
  • Provides a mechanism for secure messaging and remote procedure calls
  • Runs on embedded systems
  • Ports to many operating systems
