FAQ - 4.0 Release Q) What happened to virtual domain support?
ClarkConnect is designed to be a server/gateway for small/medium-sized organizations. From the perspective of a single organization, virtual domain support is not an important feature -- in fact, it just adds clutter and confusion to the web-based interface. We do, of course, recognize that:
- ClarkConnect is used for other purposes
- there are exceptions that prove the above rule
Regardless, the reason for dropping virtual domain support is technical. ClarkConnect includes the underlying architecture of the Kolab groupware system. The virtual domain support in Kolab is something that was untested when the requirements for ClarkConnect 4.0 were made in early 2006. We do expect virtual domains to return in a future version of ClarkConnect.
Q) What happened to the catch all user?
Since ClarkConnect 2.0-ish, mail delivery has been handled by either Postfix or Procmail. In ClarkConnect 4.0, mail delivery is handled by a filtering script and Cyrus. This makes implementing the catch all user more complex in a 4.0 system.
